Before, during and after The Big Waves

The Bonaire Marine Park scheduled a couple press trips - one to Boca Slagbaai on Thursday and one via boat on Friday to view the damage caused by the waves.

Harbour Village's lost a fill station but thankfully not their compressor. Even then work had started on repairing the damage.

This photo taken just three weeks later shows the extra beach Harbour Village gained from the storm.

Easily the most devastated buildings were the Green Parrot Restaurant and the Sand Dive and Photo Shops. These buildings have suffered from wind reversals in the past but never like this. Rumor has it that these buildings will not be rebuilt at sea level but the businesses will relocate to higher locals.

Habitat's pier took a beating but again the compressors were located on higher ground so those were undamaged. (Photo taken during Press Tour).

The rest of Habitat and their restaurant Rum Runners only had to combat the salt spray.

Habitat's boats are busy with divers loading from the Marina just down the street.

The saddest damage to our island was to our historic Boca Slagbaai Plantation house in Washington Park. Photos of this landhuis grace many postcards, books, and memories of Bonaire. Plans are already in the works to repair the damage to this lovely building.
