Dear Bonaire E-News Readers,We're working on a large number of news stories for the next issue of the E-News, which some of you may
realize was due out yesterday. As a result of a sudden increase in last minute deadlines (paid word related), and the sheer bulk of the current issue of the E-News edition we're working on, we will not have it ready
until Monday or Tuesday of next week at the soonest (at which point it will be sent out as a two (hopefully not more) part edition, much like the September 29th issue). As a result, there will not be a November 3rd
issue of the E-News, and we hope to continue with smaller, more manageable weekly issues on November 10th (however, no E-News on November 24th, due to a much anticipated invasion of family members for the American
Thanksgiving). To keep our news anxious readers happy, below are a few items which are of near-term concern (i.e. they happen before the current Bonaire E-News edition will get published.) |

- BONHATA Gala Tickets. BONHATA, the Bonaire Hotel and Tourism Association has announced that it is holding its Third Annual Presidential Charity Gala on the
Freewinds cruise ship (a BONHATA member), on Sunday, October 31st, starting at 745pm. Tickets to this exclusive event are NAFl. 150,-, and may be purchased from the BONHATA office. There will also be a raffle for a
round-trip pair of tickets to Amsterdam, and a week in Montego Bay, Jamaica, with airfare included. All profits from the dinner will go to a local charitable project (yet to be announced). For more information, contact
the BONHATA office at 5134.- Times Are-A-Changing!
Just in time for Halloween, an Act of Congress (at least in the U.S.) will give millions of people in the U.S. (and around the world) a little more time. One hour to be exact. On Sunday, October 31st, in the wee hours, many of our readers will get the benefit of an extra hour, all as part of the change from Daylight Savings Time to Standard Time. Those of us on Bonaire, however, aren't quite as lucky. Time will continue at its normal (and often leisurely pace). What that means is that as of October 31st, those parts of the world with time changes will find Bonaire to be in a different time zone than before the change, since Bonaire is on Atlantic Standard Time (AST) all year round. For example, while during the summer (i.e. Daylight Savings Time), Bonaire and the U.S. East Coast share the same clock, but come Standard Time on the East Coast, Bonaire shifts to an hour earlier. Please keep that in mind when calling, and enjoy the extra hour of sleep if you're so fortunate (at least as long as you can forget that you have to give that hour back on April 2, 2000).
- Congress Youth Reproductive Health. On Saturday, October 30th, the "Chapi Task Force" will be sponsoring a congress on the topic of "Reproductive Health of the Youth". This congress,
which is a Bonaire precursor to the Antillean congress on the same topic being held in Curacao later in November, is being held at the Jong Bonaire Center, and starts at 10am. For more information, contact Marijke or
Solange at SASO, phone 5330 x285 or x283. - Beefeater to Reopen. The Beefeater Restaurant reopens Monday, November 1st, with a new manager (but same owners), and will be open every night of the week except
Sundays. That's it for now! Happy Halloween! |
